My wife, Zarina and I are grateful with Dato' Paduka Haji Mohd Puat Haji Ali, Senior Advisor of Al Bukhary Foundation for inviting us to attend the YSB Royal Charity Banquet 2025 graced by Her Majesty the Queen of Malaysia, Raja Zarith Sofiah. Charity is a powerful force in society that drives positive transformation, offering a range of benefits for individuals, and communities as a whole. It goes beyond immediate relief, acting as a catalyst for long-term social change and fostering a more equitable and compassionate world. Al Bukhary Foundation is one of the major philanthropic donors for YSB initiatives. (albukharyfoundation.my)

YSB is an organization that actively involves itself in charity and community service throughout the State of Kedah Darul Aman. As an agent of change in charitable work, YSB is also a pioneer in implementing various programs that encompass primary & secondary education programs, scholarships, tuition classes, youth development, development of women & single mothers, health, providing aid during national disasters & charitable hemodialysis centers. In Her Highness' royal address, YSB Chairperson Tunku Puteri Intan Safinas Almarhum Sultan Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah said, “Our YSB has served the community of Kedah for almost 30 years with dedication. Donations and assistance provided by YSB includes all races, age groups & levels of society that are in need. Funds obtained for this purpose are donated by corporate bodies, and concerned individuals through various charitable events in Kedah and country-wide. This YSB charity banquet is aimed at raising more funds for our education and STEM (science, technology & mathematics) subjects for students in the rural areas. Since, 1999, we have implemented programs that reached out more than 100,000 students & invested nearly RM17 million." (www.instagram.com>tunkuputeri<)

As CEO Sejahtera Leadership Initiative and Global Sejahtera, I understand charity includes voluntary giving. Though popularly philanthropy and charity are often used interchangeably, there are differences between the two, Charity aims to provide immediate relief for basic needs such as as food, shelter, clothing or money. Philanthropy is a long term commitment which contributes to the building of human and social capital and facilitates the social change. (https://www.facebook.com/SejahteraLeadershipInitiative/)
