MANILA, Philippines — A Valentine’s Day message from actress and SexBomb Girls member Sunshine Garcia thanking her husband for his support is being seen by some as a subtle response to remarks by Alvin Aragon questioning why she was allowed to perform at the group’s recent reunion concert.

Garcia on Sunday shared photos of her celebration with husband Bulacan Vice Governor Alex Castro, expressing gratitude for what she described as his continued encouragement.

“My date last night. Nagkaroon din tayo ng quality time. Hindi mo nakakalimutan talagang maging sweet, girl na girl ako haha! And thank you lagi sa SUPPORT, hinahayaan mo akong mag GROW at gawin yung mga bagay na makakapagpasaya sa akin. Thank you sa pag-intindi. I love you VG Alex Castro,” she wrote.

(My date last night. We were able to spend some quality time. You never forget to be sweet, I really felt like such a girl, haha! And thank you always for the support, for allowing me to grow and do the things that make me happy. Thank you for understanding. I love you, VG Alex Castro).

While Garcia did not directly mention Aragon, her post came after he publicly criticized Castro for allowing her to take part in the SexBomb Girls’ reunion concert.

In an interview on Abante’s “Jigo Live,” Aragon questioned why a husband would permit his wife to perform in what he described as revealing outfits.

“They’re saying, ‘Sunshine’s husband is a vice governor, yet he allowed them to hold a concert.’ He shouldn’t have. You’re supposed to protect your wife. You shouldn’t let her wear clothes that would make men lust after her,” Aragon said.

Aragon, who is married to former SexBomb member Izzy Trazona, said he believes a husband has a duty to shield his wife from situations that may invite “unpleasant conversations and thoughts” from other men.

“I want to protect my wife. I should be the only one looking at her because I am her husband,” he said, adding that he would not allow Trazona to dance on stage in clothing he considers inappropriate.

In a separate interview on DZAR radio on Feb. 13, Aragon expanded on his views about marriage, saying decisions in their household are guided by prayer and biblical principles.

He confirmed that Trazona asked for his permission before appearing as a guest at the reunion concert and that he prayed before deciding.

“She was just going to step on stage, yet we still had to pray about it. And then they say I’m controlling, that I make all the decisions. Am I the boss? No, there’s a government in the family. The husband must take,” he said.

Aragon also denied claims that he influenced Trazona’s exit from the SexBomb Girls, noting that she left the group in 2009, three years before they married in 2012.

“Who made Izzy resign from the SexBomb? The Lord, when Izzy became a Christian,” he said, recounting that she chose to step away after embracing Christianity.

He said her decision was rooted in concerns about the group’s name, costumes and dance routines.

“We stay away from that. It’s not pleasing. It’s not a good influence, especially on children,” he said, referring to the word “sex” in the group’s name.

Aragon also came to Trazona’s defense amid criticism surrounding her strained relationship with her transgender child, Sofia.

The issue resurfaced after Sofia shared online that she and her mother remain estranged and that she fears how Trazona might react to her transition. Their complicated relationship has been public since 2023.

In the interview, Aragon said his wife is guided by Scripture, claiming that the Bible condemns homosexuality and citing the story of Sodom and Gomorrah.

“Izzy has been getting a lot of backlash… They say she didn’t accept her child because she’s gay. That’s true,” he said.

“Read Genesis 17:18 and 19 — those men in Sodom and Gomorrah wanted to have sex with other men, and God judged Sodom and Gomorrah. Now, a good parent tells their child what not to do, right? Because you’ll end up in danger if you keep doing that,” Alvin stressed.

He continued: “God will throw you to hell if you continue in homosexuality. Go on living that way and you don’t want to believe in Jesus? I assure you, God will throw you to hell if you don’t stop, repent and believe in the gospel.”

His comments drew mixed reactions on social media, with some supporting his emphasis on religious conviction and others criticizing what they described as a lack of acceptance.
