Sunway Medical Centre wins Hospital of the Year at Healthcare Asia Awards 2026 for the fifth year, highlighting its innovation and patient-centred excellence.
SUNWAY Medical Centre, Sunway City (SMC) has been named Hospital of the Year – Malaysia at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2026, marking its fifth consecutive win in the category and reinforcing its position as a leader in the nation’s private healthcare sector.
At the same ceremony, SMC also secured the Smart Hospital Initiative of the Year – Malaysia, recognising its consistent adoption of digital technologies to enhance operational efficiency and patient satisfaction.
The Healthcare Asia Awards is an annual programme that honours outstanding hospitals, clinics, and healthcare organisations across the region, highlighting institutions that demonstrate innovation, set benchmarks in excellence, and contribute significantly to their communities.
With over 300 resident consultants across 80 medical specialities and 28 Centres of Excellence, SMC continues to set benchmarks in holistic, multidisciplinary care by tailoring treatment plans to individual patient needs.
SMC Chief Executive Officer Dr Seow Vei Ken said that these accolades highlight the hospital’s commitment to advancing healthcare delivery through both medical expertise and innovation.
“To be conferred with the Hospital of the Year award for the fifth consecutive year, alongside the Smart Hospital Initiative recognition, is a powerful validation of our vision at SMC.
“It reflects our ongoing commitment to advance healthcare through clinical excellence, innovation, and most importantly, better patient outcomes,” he said.
SMC’s key advancements include the introduction of Malaysia’s first Photon-Counting CT System in 2025, a next-generation technology that raises the standard of medical imaging with ultra-high resolution for a broad range of clinical applications.
The hospital has also achieved a milestone in its robotic spine surgery programme with the adoption of the AiBLE™ Spine Surgical Suite, which provides robotic guidance to support minimally invasive procedures in Malaysia and across Southeast Asia.
The latest accolades add to a growing list of international honours for SMC.
The hospital was recently named the top hospital in Malaysia and ranked among the world’s top 250 hospitals in Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2026.
It also secured the number one spot in Asia for cataract surgery in Newsweek’s Asia’s Top Private Hospitals and Clinics 2026, alongside high rankings in ophthalmology and orthopaedic procedures.
As the flagship hospital of Sunway Healthcare Group, SMC is continuing its expansion with the completion of its sixth block, Tower F (Children’s Pavilion), expected by the third quarter of this year. This expansion will increase its capacity to more than 1,000 beds.
SMC remains the first private hospital in Malaysia to achieve three major hospital-wide accreditations: the Joint Commission International (JCI) Gold Seal of Approval, the Australian Council on Healthcare Standards (ACHS) International accreditation, and certification from the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH).
