Despite warnings by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost for retailers to not hoard sugar supply or impose conditions on buyers, this customer took to TikTok, sharing how this supermarket failed to follow ministry guidelines.

In her TikTok, she began by focusing on why locals are made to buy RM4.20/packet of sugar when Bangladeshis were allowed to purchase subsidised sugar at RM2.85/packet, because of blatant chronisme by the workers.

“We are made to buy premium sugar, when just now a Bangladeshi bought the subsidised ones by the bulk.”

“I am going to give them an earful.”

After sharing to another customer, that they were given an earful, the workers finally relented and gave her what she needed.

So that’s how it works?

“You are not supposed to hoard sugar. I am a local. How can you only give this out to Bangladeshis?”

“You forced me to buy the expensive ones instead. This is not right!”

Netizens commenting on the video shared that this is a common occurance, not just at this Semenyih-based supermarket, but other places as well.

Let’s hope that the authorities will do something about this.
