Police confirmed that the supervisor was killed while a lorry driver was injured after they were hit by a car driven by a 26-year-old man who was found to have a blood alcohol level above the legal limit.

KUALA LUMPUR: A supervisor who was killed after being hit by a car driven by a man believed to be under the influence of alcohol on the Sultan Iskandar Highway early today had been married for just four months.

The victim’s father, Fazli Buyong, 56, said his eldest of three children, Faris Irfan, 28, got married on June 13.

He said Faris had been due to return home at noon today to cook for the family after finishing work and getting some rest.

“He told us that after finishing work today and sleeping for a while, he would come home at noon and cook for us… but sadly, that was not to be,” he told Bernama when contacted.

Fazli said what made the tragedy even more heartbreaking was that Faris’s wife had been at the scene to accompany him at work since 10 pm, but was waiting in the car when the crash occurred.

Fazli received news of his son’s death through a phone call from his daughter-in-law at 4.20 am.

He said that at the time of the incident, the victim and his colleagues were packing up their equipment to leave after completing their work, with only the safety cones left to be collected when the car struck the victim.

Coming to terms with his son’s death, Fazli called for harsher penalties against drivers who cause fatalities while under the influence of alcohol.

He also urged the authorities to review and tighten laws concerning driving under the influence of alcohol and drugs.

The funeral prayers for the victim, who lived in Setiawangsa, were held at the Mu’adz Bin Jabal Mosque before the burial took place at the Raudhatul Sakinah Taman Selaseh Muslim Cemetery in Batu Caves after Asar prayers today.

Earlier, police confirmed that the 28-year-old supervisor was killed while a lorry driver was injured after they were hit by a car driven by a 26-year-old man who was found to have a blood alcohol level above the legal limit.
