Supreme Court orders govt officials to answer Bato’s urgent petitions

MANILA, Philippines — The Supreme Court en banc has ordered government officials named as respondents to submit their comment within a non-extendible period of 72 hours to Senator Ronald dela Rosa’s urgent petitions seeking to stop his arrest, detention, and possible transfer in connection with an arrest warrant issued by the International Criminal Court (ICC).

The case stemmed from petitions filed by Dela Rosa seeking immediate judicial intervention through a temporary restraining order (TRO), writ of preliminary injunction, or status quo ante order.

The senator’s filings include an Urgent Manifestation with Omnibus Motion and an Extremely Urgent Supplemental Manifestation with Motion, both asking the Court to stop any arrest, detention, or transfer related to the ICC warrant linked to its ongoing investigation into alleged drug war killings.

The Supreme Court likewise directed Dela Rosa to file his reply within a non-extendible period of 72 hours from receipt of the respondents’ comment.

Dela Rosa earlier raised the issue following reports that the ICC had issued a warrant of arrest in connection with its probe into alleged extrajudicial killings during the government’s anti-drug campaign.
