Surgery is a term traditionally used to describe medical procedures treating an injury, wound, or illness or condition by making a cut or incision into the tissue (Mark Manmmade.com). Procedure and surgery are types of medical interventions that diagnose, treat, or evaluate a condition or illness. A procedure tends to be less invasive and does not require an incision. Surgery is more invasive and does involve an incision to the skin (Wikipedia), While procedures do not take much time, the time taken for surgeries varies. Whatever it is, whether it is a procedure or a surgery, much thought must be given to the planning and preparation of the work to be done. It cannot be a last-minute slipshod work.
Recently, I had to go under the surgeon's knife in Pusat Perubatan Universiti Malaya (PPUMP). Three doctors Dr.Sanjay, Dr.Prem and Dr.Lee performed the surgery. It was just a surgical procedure to create an access point in the arm to connect an artery to a vein. The fistula as it is called may be a simple operation for many, but I took it seriously. The fistula takes a few hours and is generally an outpatient treatment. I was worried before the surgery because it requires a cut in the skin
But, fortunately, the three doctors made it look easy. From the moment they started the surgery, they concentrated fully on the surgery. There was no other talk. The surgery was done under general anesthesia, so I could hear their conversation. They were always discussing the surgical procedure and the right way to do it. There wasn't any other talk. Some many years ago, I had to go through a procedure, and the doctor doing it was discussing his personal problem with the nurse. I wondered if it was the right thing to do. While doing the procedure, he can get engrossed in his problem and make a mistake as his concentration is not totally there.
The surgeon also talked to me to calm me down. I felt relaxed when the surgeon kept talking to me and didn't really feel the pain. Dr.Sanjay, the main man, was also very relaxed. He made me comfortable and tried his best to make sure it was pain-free. There was very little pain that I had to endure. These are the kind of doctors we need. Someone who cares for the patient. Doctors may be busy managing a patient, but they must remember that anything done must be in the best interest of the patient. All three doctors and the team of nurses must be praised for their work. The nurses, too, were serious and systematic and knew the procedures very well. Credit must be given where necessary, so this team deserves the credit. Keep up the good work. I hope PPUM acknowledges good work and rewards them well.
