Surgeons in Sri Lanka remove man’s ostrich egg-sized bladder stone

  • Surgeons at Trincomalee District General Hospital in Sri Lanka have removed a massive bladder stone weighing 3.1kg from a 55-year-old patient.
  • The stone, described as being the size of an ostrich egg by Urologist Pragaladhan Balakrishnan, was discovered after the patient experienced difficulty urinating.
  • As reported by News1st, Dr Balakrishnan said: “Following all necessary surgical procedures, we successfully removed the stone from the patient's bladder.”
  • He added: "According to available records, it is the largest bladder stone ever documented and removed through surgery."
  • Hospital director Sandamali Samarakoon indicated the bladder stone removal could qualify for a Guinness World Record, surpassing the previous record of 1.9kg set in Brazil in 2003.
