Survey: Anwar’s Approval Rating Now at 54%, Only 39% of M’sians Think Country is Heading in Right Direction

A Merdeka Centre survey shows that the Madani government is starting to see some light with a slight bump in voter ratings as it wraps up its second year in office.

The survey involved 1,207 registered voters from all racial backgrounds, including 52% Malay, 29% Chinese, 7% Indian, 6% Muslim Bumiputra, and 6% non-Muslim Bumiputra from Sabah and Sarawak.

Voters gave Anwar Ibrahim a positive rating

Based on the survey done by an independent group that looks into public opinion and socio-economic analysis found that voters are mostly happy with Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim’s work in bringing in investments, boosting the country’s image, and improving the civil service.

According to the findings released on Monday, December 23, 54% of voters gave the Prime Minister a positive rating, showing a slight improvement from last year from 50% last year.

The overall rating for the Federal Government also went up from 46% last year to 51%. However, people had mixed opinions about efforts to strengthen the economy.

53% think the country is heading towards the wrong direction

The findings also show how 39% of voters now think the country is headed in the right direction, up from 36% last year.

Out of the 53% who think the country is going the wrong way, 47% point to economic problems, while others are pointing fingers at political instability (7%) or bad administration (8%).

While dissatisfaction with Putrajaya is at 47%, mainly due to ongoing concerns about the cost of living and worries about upcoming subsidy cuts.
