Police have apprehended a 25-year-old man suspected of throwing Molotov cocktails in Melaka and Perak earlier this month. The arrest marks a significant breakthrough in addressing a string of dangerous incidents linked to illegal loan shark activities.

State police chief Datuk Zainol Samah announced that the suspect was taken into custody around 9 am on June 12. The arrest took place in front of a house in Taman Kok Liang, Kuala Lumpur. The suspect is believed to be involved in malicious activities connected to ‘ah long’ (loan shark) operations originating from a neighboring country.

The investigation commenced following a police report by a 38-year-old woman in Masjid Tanah, Alor Gajah. She reported that her vehicle, parked in front of her house, had been damaged, apparently by a Molotov cocktail. This alarming incident prompted the authorities to intensify their efforts to identify and apprehend those responsible.

“Preliminary investigations revealed that the suspect had been working with a moneylending company from a neighboring country for the past month. He is also suspected of being involved in a similar act of mischief in Sitiawan, Perak,” Zainol stated in a press release.

The arrest highlights the serious nature of the crime, which not only involves property damage but also poses a significant risk to public safety. During the arrest, police seized several items from the suspect, including a Toyota Unser MPV, a mobile phone, and a set of clothing. These items are expected to aid in the ongoing investigation.

The case is being investigated under Section 435 of the Penal Code, which pertains to mischief by fire or explosive substance with intent to cause damage. This section of the law is applied in cases where the act is intended to destroy or cause substantial damage to property, reflecting the gravity of the crime.

Police are continuing their investigation to uncover further details about the suspect's involvement and to identify any potential accomplices. The authorities urge the public to report any suspicious activities to help curb such dangerous criminal behavior. This arrest underscores the commitment of law enforcement agencies to maintaining public safety and addressing the threats posed by illegal loan shark operations.
