KUALA LUMPUR – A man believed to be behind a violent robbery and rape at a residence in Wangsa Maju has died during his arrest, following a confrontation with police, confirmed Kuala Lumpur police chief Datuk Fadil Marsus today.

Speaking to Scoop, Fadil said the suspect had been located and detained shortly after the incident, but suffocated and passed away on the scene during the arrest.

"The suspect involved in the robbery and rape case in Wangsa Maju was successfully detected and arrested. However, during the arrest, the suspect experienced breathing difficulties and died at the scene," he said.

The incident occurred at around 12.40pm yesterday, when police received an emergency call reporting a house break-in at a residence in Wangsa Maju.

Acting on the tip-off, two police officers were dispatched to the location. Upon arrival, they knocked on the door but received no response. About five minutes later, a man opened the door.

After identifying themselves, the officers entered the house to conduct a search. The man then pulled out a meat cleaver and attempted to attack one of the officers.

The officer managed to evade the strike, and a struggle ensued. During the confrontation, the suspect punched the officer in the face and bit his hand. With the help of security personnel at the residence, the police were able to subdue and arrest the man.

Shortly after being detained, the suspect complained of breathing difficulties. Police immediately called for an ambulance, which arrived around 40 minutes later. Medical personnel confirmed his death on the scene.

A post-mortem examination carried out today at Kuala Lumpur Hospital concluded that the cause of death is "pending investigation."

Laboratory tests have been requested to establish the exact cause, and a physical examination by a forensic medical officer revealed no visible injuries on the suspect’s body.

Investigations revealed that four local women were in the house during the incident. The suspect purportedly gained entry by posing as a delivery man, tied the victims’ hands, and confined three of them in the master bedroom.

One victim was taken to a second bedroom, where she was raped twice — once in the room and again in the bathroom.

All four victims sustained minor injuries to their hands, faces, and bodies. The suspect also stole RM200 in cash and an ATM card before committing the assaults.

Fadil added that initial checks revealed the 26-year-old suspect had a criminal history, with 10 prior records related to robbery. He also tested positive for involvement in several robbery and rape cases in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

“The suspect tested positive for several cases of robbery and rape in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur,” Fadil said.

Police are continuing their investigation into the case and have urged the public to stay vigilant and report any suspicious activity to the nearest police station. - October 7, 2025
