
LAHAD DATU: A 37-year-old foreigner was detained after ramming his Proton Wira into a police roadblock at Km 12, Jalan Lahad Datu-Tawau, Saturday.
District Police Chief ACP Rohan Shah Ahmad said the incident occurred around 12.30am during a roadblock carried out by the Lahad Datu Police Headquarters under the Integrated Crime Prevention Operation.
He said the suspect who was on his way to Lahad Datu from Tawau crashed into the roadblock despite being ordered to stop for inspection.
“The driver’s reckless action caused damage to a motorcycle belonging to Royal Malaysian Police and fortunately, no police officer or member was injured in the incident.
“The suspect who attempted to flee was detained and his vehicle seized,” he said, adding the suspect was currently remanded under Section 117 of the Penal Code for further investigation.
The case is being investigated under Section 186 of the Penal Code, Section 353 of the Penal Code, Section 26(2) of the Police Act, Section 43(1)of the Road Transport Act and Section 6(1)(c) of Immigration Act.
