A MAN'S attempt to use a school van to transport smuggled liquor was foiled when police intercepted the operation at a car park in Taman Sri Gadong, Klang, on Monday.
Commander of the Region One Marine Police Force (PPM), Assistant Commissioner Rusley Chi Ari, said the operation, codenamed Op Kontraban, was conducted by the Marine Intelligence Unit from the Port Klang PPM at around 12 noon.
“A 26-year-old local man was found transferring suspected untaxed liquor from a lorry into a school van,” he said in a statement to *Sinar Harian* on Tuesday.
“The suspect was detained for further investigation.”
A subsequent inspection uncovered 62 boxes and 33 ‘cracks’ of alcoholic beverages inside the lorry, along with an additional six boxes found in the school van.
Rusley said the seized liquor, including tax value, is estimated to be worth RM47,553.97 and is believed to be intended for distribution in the Klang area.
Both vehicles were also confiscated as part of the operation.
“The suspect and all seized items have been brought to the Port Klang PPM for investigation, including efforts to trace the source of the contraband liquor,” he added.
The case is being investigated under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 and Section 74 of the Excise Act 1976. - May 20, 2025
