KOTA BHARU: The suspect accused of stabbing his wife, a 44-year-old nurse, six times in Kampung Padang Lepai, Kadok, last Monday has four criminal records, three of them involving drug-related offences.
Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said the 47-year-old suspect’s remaining record was for another criminal offence.
He said preliminary investigations found that a dispute over divorce proceedings was believed to have prompted the suspect to act aggressively towards his wife.
“Based on statements from the victim’s family members obtained after the police report was lodged, the suspect was believed to be unhappy with his wife’s decision to file for divorce.
“This is believed to have triggered his aggressive behaviour, causing him to stab the victim repeatedly, inflicting six wounds to her body and neck,” he said when contacted today.
Mohd Yusoff said the victim is currently receiving treatment at Raja Perempuan Zainab II Hospital and is reported to be in stable condition.
He said the suspect, who surrendered to police following the incident, had been remanded for seven days until Oct 12 to assist in investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 326 of the Penal Code for voluntarily causing grievous hurt using a dangerous weapon.
