LAHAD DATU: Police shot dead a 28-year-old suspected drug dealer after he rammed into two police personnel in attempt to avoid arrest at Jalan POIC Phase 2, Saturday.

District Police Chief, ACP Rohan Shah Ahmad, said a team of police from the Narcotic Crime Investigation Division (JSJN) launched “Op Tapis” about 11.45am upon receiving information on drug trafficking activity. They stopped a Perodua Viva driven by the suspect who suddenly reversed the car aggressively and hit one of the team members.

“The suspect made a U-turn before speeding against the traffic and hitting another member of the team who tried to stop him. However, police managed to fire a shot at the vehicle to defend before being hit by the suspect,” he said.

The suspect later sped off but skidded about 400 metres from the scene.

Rohan said, inspection later found the suspect unconscious on the left passenger seat. He was confirmed dead by medical officers who came to the scene.

“The suspect was identified as a local unemployed. Checks showed he had five past records involving various narcotic and commercial crime offences (wanted).

“Police seized 7.45 gram drugs believed to be syabu worth RM1, 490, two machetes and a Perodua Viva,” he said.

The case would be investigated under Section 307 of the Penal Code and Section 39A(1) of Dangerous Drug Act 1952.

He urged the public to convey any information on drug-related activities so that immediate action can be taken.
