German police have deployed to tackle a suspected hostage situation at a bank in western Germany.

Police said on Friday that a large number of officers were at the scene in the town of Sinzig in the Ahrweiler district, after receiving an emergency call at 9 am (0700 GMT).

The town is located between Bonn and Koblenz in the western German state of Rhineland-Palatinate.
