
PETALING JAYA: A Thai citizen suspected of being a smuggler died after he was shot while trying to attack a General Operations Force personnel (GOF) with a parang, NST reports.
Police said the victim, in his 30s, was escorting seven illegal immigrants when the incident took place.
Kelantan acting police chief Datuk Muhamad Zaki Harun said in the 1.40am incident, the GOF personnel was trying to arrest the victim for transporting illegal immigrants when suddenly he attacked the personnel with a parang.
“To defend himself, the personnel shot the victim, hitting his left shoulder,“ he reportedly said.
The victim, who was rushed to the Pasir Mas hospital, died while receiving treatment at the hospital at about 2.12am.
