MANILA, Philippines — Sen. Joseph Victor Ejercito said the Senate would study the proposal of Sen. Panfilo Lacson to suspend the salary of Sen. Ronald dela Rosa as a "compromise" for his failure to attend his legislative duties.
Dela Rosa shunned the public after Ombudsman Jesus Crispin Remulla said the International Criminal Court has issued an arrest warrant against him as an accused in the case against humanity stemming from the Duterte administration's bloody war on drugs.
"I heard someone will file an ethics complaint against Senator Bato (dela Rosa) by March," said Ejercito, Senate Ethics Committee chairman.
"Perhaps, if there would be a compromise, maybe, there will never be an ethics case [against dela Rosa," he said.
"Insofar as I am concerned, I don't want to decide [on the matter]. We are a collegial body. Let's just follow the decision of the members," Ejercito said in Filipino.
Lacson on Tuesday said former senator Antonio Trillanes IV intended to file a complaint in March before the Senate Ethics Committee against dela Rosa for being absent for too long.
