ON 19 February 2024, the Daily Express had published a news article, “Action on 13 Sabah lawyers”, which gave the unfortunate impression that Mr Chen Kok On was suspended from practicing law “since 2018” by the Sabah Advocates Disciplinary Board.
In actual fact, Mr. Chen Kok On was only suspended for 3 months (from 6 December 2023 until 5 March 2024), for making a false statement regarding whether he was a partner or a legal assistant in a law firm in Kota Kinabalu, when he applied for the Certificate to Practice for the year 2020.
We wish to express our remorse to Mr. Chen Kok On as a result of the wrong impression from the mistake that his suspension was effective from 2018.
The mistake arose from a misreading of the Sabah Law Society’s website which contained a list of 9 lawyers whose suspension ranged from 2018 to 2023 for various reasons.”
