Kota Kinabalu: The State Tourism, Culture and Environment Ministry supports the Sabah Women Entrepreneurs and Professionals Association’s (Swepa) 30th Anniversary Gala Dinner for a good cause.

The event will be held on June 11 (Sunday) at Magellan Sutera Hotel.

Minister Datuk Christina Liew said the gala dinner is in aid of the Sabah Society for the Deaf (SSD) which deserves support for its role and functions.

Acknowledging SSD’s contribution to the community, she noted that the Society, which was established in 1975, provides pre-school education for deaf children in laying the foundation for further education.

Damsel. Other members of the delegation comprised Karen Wong (Vice-President), Betty Epin (Honorary Secretary), Molly Yong (Honorary Treasurer), Hanna Loh (Exco member cum Event Organising Chairperson) and Dora Voon (Swepa Life Member).

Briefing the Minister, Sitti said the gala dinner also aimed to raise funds to enable the association to continue organising activities for the benefit of members and the public. “At the same time, we want to promote Swepa to new entrepreneurs and professionals in Sabah, while recognising existing members for their loyalty and contribution to the association for the past three decades,” she said.

Liew, who was enlightened on Swepa’s activities and Women Enhancing Women programme, praised the association for its accomplishment in creating a community of women entrepreneurs and professionals since its inception in 1993.

“Going by its commendable record of services to members and the community, Swepa has stamped its mark in bringing women entrepreneurs and professionals to the forefront in the economic development of the State and nation, apart from providing a platform for business networking and training in entrepreneurship, marketing strategies and digitalisation, among other areas,” she said.

The formation of Swepa was spearheaded by the Sabah Women’s Advisory Council (MPWS) Economic Committee in March 1993, and registered in May 1994.
