In a significant stride towards normalcy, the Penang Water Supply Corporation (PBAPP) announced the completion of repair works on the pipeline leak at the bottom of Sungai Perai. The Sungai Dua Water Treatment Plant (LRA), located in Sungai Perai, underwent crucial maintenance with the replacement of two 1,200-millimeter valves, marking the conclusion of ancillary repair works at the last of the 22 locations in Penang.
In a statement released this evening, PBAPP detailed the successful attachment of a modified clamp on the pipeline, finalizing the repair work at 7 pm. Currently, tests are underway to ensure the full restoration of water supply. Gradually increasing water pressure through the repaired section of the treated water pump is a key step in this process.
"If everything goes well, the second phase of water restoration may commence late tonight or early tomorrow morning," stated PBAPP in its latest update. The original schedule had earmarked the beginning of the second phase for 6 am on January 12, encompassing 84 percent or 495,065 of the 590,000 affected accounts in Seberang Perai and the island.
Notably, PBAPP had earlier announced the completion of the replacement of the two main valves at LRA Sungai Dua at 11 pm the previous day, a few hours ahead of schedule. This proactive approach underscores the corporation's commitment to swiftly resolving the water supply disruption that affected a substantial 590,000 consumers in Penang.
The repair process involved meticulous attention to detail, replacing critical valves and implementing a modified clamp to rectify the pipeline leak. Such repairs are integral to ensuring the reliability and efficiency of the water supply infrastructure. PBAPP's prompt action in completing these repairs ahead of schedule reflects its dedication to minimizing inconvenience for the affected consumers.
The water disruption, which commenced at 6 am the day before, affected a broad spectrum of residents and businesses across Penang. With the completion of the repair works, residents can now look forward to the imminent resumption of normal water supply.
As the tests continue and water pressure is gradually restored, PBAPP remains cautiously optimistic about the prompt initiation of the second phase of water restoration. This careful approach ensures that the repaired infrastructure is fully operational before resuming the water supply to the majority of affected accounts.
In conclusion, the successful repair of the Sungai Perai pipeline leak is a testament to PBAPP's efficiency and commitment to the well-being of the community. With the worst of the disruption now behind, the corporation's efforts to restore normalcy to the affected areas demonstrate its proactive and responsive approach to addressing critical infrastructure issues. The resilience shown in overcoming this challenge reaffirms PBAPP's role as a reliable guardian of Penang's water supply.
