
Kota Kinabalu: Two men were on Friday sentenced to life imprisonment ordered given 20 and 15 lashes of the cane each by the High Court for trafficking syabu.
Judge Wong Siong Tung found each Chew En Leong, 43, and Norsidin Jarail, 28, guilty of committing the offences, respectively.
The court sentenced Chew, a car wash owner, to life imprisonment and ordered him to be caned 20 times for trafficking 17,509.4gm of syabu at 6.50pm on Dec 21, 2018 at the five-foot-way in front of ABX Express (M) Sdn Bhd at Gaya Street.

Wong delivered the decision at the end of their respective defence.
Both Chew and Norsidin were charged under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act (DDA) 1952, which is punishable under Section 39B (2) of the same Act carries the death sentence or imprisonment for life and whipping not less than 15 strokes if not sentenced to death, on conviction.
Wong ordered them to serve the sentence from the date of their arrest, respectively. Nineteen prosecution witnesses and one defence witness were called to testify during Chew’s case.
In Norsidin’s case, the prosecution called seven witnesses while the defence called two witnesses.
Customs Deputy Public Prosecutor Ahmad Farid Ahmad Kamal prosecuted in Chew’s case while DPP Afiq Agoes prosecuted in Norsidin’s case.
Chew and Norsidin were defended by counsel Datuk Ram Singh and Chen Wen Jye.
