
Kota Kinabalu: The Sabah Syariah Justice Department (JKSNS) will enforce the cost of document filing for all new cases from May 2.
Chief Syarie Judge Datuk Ahmad Din OKK Othman (pic) said fees, costs and allowances would be charged to clients or syarie lawyers for cases registered at the State Syariah Court according to the type of cases.
“The implementation of fees, costs and allowances is based on the 2021 Syariah Court Rules of Property Procedure (Fi) and the 2021 Syariah Court Rules of Property Procedure (Code and Allowance), which were gazetted on Aug 24, 2021.
“At the initial stage, the payment procedure is in cash or using the Financial Process Exchange (FPX) method at the payment counters in all District Syariah Courts (MSD).
“Previously, JKSN did not charge fees for case registration and document filing at the Syariah Court,” he said when met after the State Syariah Lawyers Reception Ceremony at the State Syariah Court Complex, here, Tuesday.He said so far this year, a total of 183 syarie lawyers in the State were registered.
“Of the number, 74 completed the compliance according to the Sabah State Syarie Lawyer Rules 2021, while 109 have yet to comply.
“I suggest to syarie lawyers who are still interested in practising law in the State to expedite the matter before any action is taken,” he added.
At the ceremony, Nur Shereen Ismail was declared the first syarie lawyer appointed in court proceedings after successfully going through two interviews and application processes.
Also present were Sabah State Attorney General Datuk Nor Asiah Mohd Yusuf, Sabah Deputy State Attorney General Dayangku Fazidah Hatun Pengiran Bagul and Syariah High Court judges.
