If you've had a chance to watch recent sessions in Malaysia's Parliament, you've likely witnessed some intense debates sparked by the Opposition regarding ongoing court cases. Among these discussions, a particularly interesting moment occurred when the Opposition leader and Larut MP, Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, raised questions in Parliament about the court case involving Pagoh MP, Muhyiddin Yasin. He pondered whether this legal matter amounted to "political persecution" when compared to the Discharge Not Amounting to Acquittal (DNAA) granted to Bagan Datuk MP, Datuk Seri Dr. Zahid Hamidi.

This assertion was swiftly countered by Pengerang MP, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said. She clarified that the Attorney-General (AG) wields ultimate authority under Article 145(3) of the Federal Constitution. This means that whether someone is deemed guilty or innocent, the AG has the final say in determining the appropriate legal action. It's important to note that this authority isn't confined to political figures alone; the AG has deliberated on various cases, some resulting in pardons, while others proceeded to prosecution.

*Article 145(3) of the Federal Constitution specifically empowers the AG to initiate, oversee, or terminate legal proceedings related to crimes, with the exception of those governed by Syariah courts, native courts (dealing with native laws and customs) or court-martials (related to the military).

What stood out during this parliamentary session was Muar MP, Syed Saddiq's attempt to participate in the discussion. Unfortunately, his efforts were met with disregard by Azalina, although she did promise to share a cup of coffee with him later.

On social media platforms, numerous users have also observed this pattern. They argue that ever since Syed Saddiq left the Government bloc due to his "principles," he has not only been marginalized by government MPs but also by the Opposition MPs he now aligns with.

In light of Syed Saddiq's departure from the Government bloc, Prime Minister Dato Seri Anwar Ibrahim has yet to issue a statement addressing the situation. This begs the question: Is Said Saddiq intentionally being sidelined by those he chose to part ways with?
