One of five French passengers evacuated from the Hondius cruise ship following a hantavirus outbreak developed symptoms during a return flight from Tenerife to Paris, French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu said on Sunday.

All five passengers were immediately placed under strict quarantine until further notice, Lecornu said.

They are receiving medical care and undergoing testing and medical examinations, he said.

The prime minister did not specify what symptoms the passenger had developed.

“I will issue a decree this evening to enable appropriate isolation measures for contact persons and to protect the general population,” Lecornu added.
