Over 90% of Malaysian respondents say AI-ready infrastructure is important for productivity, but data security and privacy remain major barriers to adoption, according to a survey by Synology.

At its Annual Press Event 2026 in Kuala Lumpur, Synology revealed that 70% of respondents cited data security and privacy as an AI adoption challenge, followed by data quality and availability at 42%.

The survey also found that 68.6% prefer hybrid or on-premises infrastructure, compared to just 12.5% who prioritise public cloud. Meanwhile, nearly 40% have no visibility into how data shared with third-party AI tools is handled.

“AI creates value when it helps people do their work better and enables the business to respond more effectively to its customers. Our focus is to help organizations sustain those gains as adoption grows, with data they can trust and a dependable path to recovery when disruption occurs,” – Antoine Yang, Synology Southeast Asia Head

Synology also highlighted ransomware recovery concerns, with only 26.4% of Malaysian respondents saying they are very confident about recovering quickly while keeping backup data protected.

To address these challenges, Synology announced new storage solutions, including the PAS7700 NVMe SSD storage system and the DP5200 backup appliance. Its ActiveProtect Manager 2.0 also adds support for Nutanix AHV and Proxmox VE.

The company is also expanding its AI offerings through Synology Office Suite, which includes AI assistance for documents, presentations and spreadsheets, alongside ChatPlus and Meet for workplace collaboration.
