Synology has pushed out a new update that transforms the BeeStation Plus, which was once just a storage device, into a home monitoring hub, to go with the new BeeCamera mobile app to tie everything together without relying on cloud services or monthly fees.

Now, the BeeStation Plus handles both storage and surveillance, letting you store files and photos while also managing camera feeds locally, and when paired with Synology Cameras, it brings in on-device AI detection that can identify people, pets, vehicles, and even intrusion events, all while keeping things private.

You can connect up to 4 cameras in one setup, and then use the BeeCamera app to fine-tune how monitoring works, whether that means setting specific AI alerts, adjusting recording schedules, or defining detection zones so you’re not getting flooded with unnecessary notifications.

Everything that gets detected is also organized into a single timeline, so you can quickly scroll through what happened during the day, filter events by type, and when something important comes up, you can save those clips into collections so they don’t get overwritten later.

According to Senior Product Manager of BeeStation, Yi Ma, the goal is to position BeeStation Plus as a central digital hub for homes and small teams, especially as video becomes a bigger part of everyday usage, and instead of sending everything to the cloud, the system keeps data under the user’s control.
