MAYNILAD Water Services Inc. (Maynilad) is strengthening its supply buffer and implementing system optimization measures following a weather bureau warning of a possible El Niño.
The company on Sunday said the optimization measures included enhancing water availability through a combination of network management, supply augmentation, infrastructure development and efficiency improvements.
Maynilad said it would maximize the output at existing treatment facilities, including modular and “New Water” plants while optimizing operations at south system plants to augment production and reduce dependence on the Angat Dam.
Maynilad is pushing its “New Water” program, which converts treated wastewater into potable water to meet growing demand and strengthen supply sustainability.
The company is also advancing key infrastructure projects, including construction of a 200-million-liter (ML) raw water reservoir at the La Mesa Compound and a 40-ML treated water reservoir in Valenzuela.
Groundwater resources are also being strengthened through the activation and rehabilitation of deep wells to provide additional supply support in select areas.
“Complementing these measures is the continued expansion of the company’s non-revenue water (NRW) reduction program, which focuses on leak detection, pressure management, and network optimization to recover lost water and improve overall system efficiency,” it said.
Maynilad said these initiatives would help increase the volume of water that can be delivered to customers without the need for additional raw water sources.
“Our priority is to ensure that our customers continue to receive reliable water service, especially during periods of high demand. We continuously implement and enhance our operational and infrastructure measures to strengthen the resilience of our system,” it continued.
With the dry season in full swing, Maynilad urged customers to help preserve water supply by practicing responsible water use as well.
Maynilad shares on Friday slipped P0.55, or 2.53 percent, to close at P21.15 each.
