Tabung Haji committed to developing the best Shariah-compliant investment strategy - CEO

IN the face of an unpredictable global economic environment, Lembaga Tabung Haji (Tabung Haji, or TH) has continued to achieve positive growth in its fund performance, said its Executive Director and Chief Executive Officer, Datuk Syed Hamadah Syed Othman.

He explained that the financial success of TH is the result of confidence in the Malaysian government's efforts to drive the nation's economic development, which has been impressive in 2024.

Looking at the broader investment market, Syed Hamadah stated that TH remains committed to continuously developing the best Shariah-compliant investment strategies with an appropriate risk level.

"In addition, we will carefully consider the necessary liquidity levels to ensure competitive returns for our depositors' savings," he added.

He emphasised that TH's investment strategies also take into account the guarantee of depositor funds, with every penny saved with TH being 100% guaranteed by the Malaysian government.

"At the same time, TH will always uphold its primary role of providing a safe and trusted platform for Shariah-compliant savings, allowing depositors to fulfil their Hajj obligations," he continued.

During a special press conference on Friday, TH announced a post-zakat profit distribution of 3.25% for the 2024 financial year. Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs), Datuk Mohd Na’im Mokhtar, confirmed that this was the highest rate in seven years since 2018. He also highlighted that the total profit distribution amounted to RM2.92 billion, benefiting over 9.54 million TH depositors.

Syed Hamadah further noted that TH had undergone numerous transformations to strengthen governance, digitise its service delivery, and stabilise its financial position, as demonstrated through the success of its three-year strategic plan, Hijrah24, which was finalised at the end of 2024.

Additionally, he highlighted that the excellent management of the Hajj operations by TH had earned international recognition, exemplified by winning the Labbaittom Award for three consecutive years in the highest customer satisfaction category for its services and guidance programmes.

Looking ahead, Syed Hamadah said that depositors are no longer required to pay zakat on their savings, as TH has already fulfilled the zakat obligation on their behalf.

"It is also important to note that the zakat adjustment practice adopted by TH has received confirmation from the National Council for Islamic Religious Affairs Malaysia (MKI) in its October 2024 meeting," he added.

"This is yet another distinction and advantage of saving with TH that every depositor should be aware of," he added. - March 21, 2025
