MANILA, Philippines — The Taguig City government has announced that over 130,000 students have already received educational scholarships through the city’s "Lifeline Assistance for Neighbors In-need Scholarship Program.”
Created in 2011 through City Ordinance No. 9 (Series of 2011) and expanded in 2020 under Ordinance No. 6 to cover over 200 institutions nationwide - a program open to all qualified Taguig residents, including senior high school graduates, continuing college students, persons with disabilities (PWDs), and public servants.
Under the program, different types of scholarships are offered, ranging from P15,000 to P110,000 per year, with an additional PHP10,000 for those whose semestral weighted average is 88.75 or higher.
This was done through City Ordinance No. 9, Series of 2011, with implementing guidelines under EO 2011-11, and expanded it under Ordinance No. 6, Series of 2020, to provide scholarship allowances to qualified residents who are taking post-secondary education in more than 200 colleges and universities in the country.
“Taguig’s scholarship program does not discriminate based on grades, schools, courses, or income, but it gives more to those who graduate in the Top 10 in any of Taguig’s public high schools, or those who study in Centers of Excellence, whether public or private, like the University of the Philippines and Ateneo de Manila University, among many others,” the Taguig City local government said in a statement on Tuesday.
“It also supports students who are classified as persons with disabilities, those pursuing graduate studies, or those taking up law and medicine in top law and medical schools,”
Allowances are also provided to scholars who need to take board or bar examinations.
Further strengthening its services, Taguig also now offers the INVEST Scholarship Program, which provides full scholarships plus monthly allowances to those taking up Medicine in the Top 10 medical schools in the country.
Taguig's sustained investment is aimed at widening access to quality education and helping more Filipino students complete their studies.
These include versions of the Iskolar ng Bayan Act filed in 2008, 2012, 2013, and 2014; the EDCOM III Act in the 19th and 20th Congresses; the Makakapagtapos Ako Act of 2025; and the Learner’s Choice in Private Basic Education Act, educational law sponsored by Sen. Alan Peter Cayetano who also penned the Priority Infrastructure for Public Higher Education Institutions Act, co-sponsored by Senator Pia Cayetano to improve the facilities and learning environments of public higher education institutions.
