KOTA KINABALU: A 31-year-old tahfiz teacher was sentenced to 12 years’ imprisonment and two strokes of the cane for sexually abusing a 14-year-old male student.
Judge Elsie Primus handed down the sentence after finding Muhd Faridzuan Mohd Yunus guilty following a full trial.
The offence occurred on Feb 21, 2024, at an apartment unit in Penampang.
Faridzuan was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017 and ordered to undergo rehabilitative counselling and two years of police supervision after his jail term.
He has, however, obtained a stay of execution pending an appeal to the High Court.
