Residents of a building in Wenshan District, Taipei City, Taiwan, noticed an unpleasant odour in their water, so a technician was deployed to check and clean the water tank on top of the residential building.

To everyone’s shock, a corpse was found floating inside the water tank.

The police believed that the man had been dead for up to 3 days and suspected that he had fallen into the water tank while climbing the ladder, which resulted in his drowning. According to the Taiwanese media outlet ETtoday, the discovery was made last Thursday (11 September), and police investigations revealed that the water tower’s internal ladder was broken.

The deceased had previous theft records

After analysing palm prints and verifying DNA, authorities identified the deceased as a 40-year-old demolition worker with the surname K, who had a previous theft record.

According to the police investigation, K may have entered the building on 9 September, when the place was under construction. While K was not related to the construction work, the police suspected K had sneaked into the building to steal valuable items, but unfortunately, at the cost of his life.

Are the residents’ health at risk?

The building, which houses around 40 to 50 residents, has raised concerns about the potential health risks of drinking water that the corpse may have contaminated.

However, Forensic expert Gao Dazheng recently assured the residents that since most household water is boiled, it had significantly reduced the risk of bacterial infections.

However, a strong odour is still possible.
