Kota Kinabalu: Sabah China Chamber of Commerce (SCCC) President Datuk Frankie Liew believes the recent Taiwan election will not impact the common desire of compatriots on both sides to get closer and more acquainted.
He is also confident that it will not impede the overarching trend of China’s eventual reunification.
He said SCCC pledged to work actively in the future to improve contact with the Consulate-General of the People’s Republic of China in Kota Kinabalu, promote Chinese culture, facilitate peaceful growth of cross-strait relations, and advance China’s reunification cause.
In response to the latest election results in Taiwan, he said SCCC believed the results of the 2024 Taiwan regional leadership and legislative elections on January 13 showed that the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) could not represent the mainstream public opinion on the island.

Read more Frankie also emphasised that as overseas Chinese and descendants of the Chinese nation, all members and committee members of Sabah China Chamber of Commerce would continue supporting the One China policy, endorse the “1992 Consensus” reflecting the One China principle, support the resolution of the Taiwan issue, and the achievement of China’s reunification.
“We firmly oppose the separatist actions of ‘Taiwan independence’ and external interference,” he said.
