Taiwan has the fifth-highest net financial assets per person in the world, according to the Allianz Global Wealth Report 2026 released on September 29, trailing only the United States, Switzerland, Denmark, and Singapore.

The German insurer's research arm put Taiwan's 2025 figure at US$186,456 per capita. That was up 9.6% from a year earlier, faster than Singapore's 8.8% gain, and it leaves Taiwan far ahead of Japan, which placed 14th at about US$101,400. In 2005, Taiwan ranked 12th.

Securities Surge Drives Taiwan's Climb

Taiwanese media reported that household financial assets grew 8.7% in 2025 to roughly US$5.1 trillion. That is close to the global rise of 8.6% but short of the 9.8% average for Asian economies excluding Japan and China. Securities holdings jumped 17.7% and now make up 34.9% of household portfolios, above the Asian average of 30.8%. Bank deposits rose 4.9%, and insurance and pension assets rose 2.4%.

Household debt grew 6.3% to about US$810 billion, leaving net financial assets at about US$4.3 trillion, up 9.1%.

Taiwan Outpaces Asia and the World Since 2019

Taiwanese media reported that, after inflation, Taiwanese households' financial wealth grew 6.9% in 2025. Cumulative real growth since 2019 reached 41.5%, compared with 39.6% for Asia and 22.9% globally.

Worldwide, financial assets hit a record of about US$304.3 trillion, up 8.6%. Market valuation gains drove about 80% of the increase, while fresh savings fell 5.4% to about US$4.6 trillion. "Global wealth set another record in 2025, but that only tells half the story," said Ludovic Subran, Allianz's chief economist.

What the Per-Capita Figure Does Not Capture

The ranking counts financial assets minus liabilities per head. It leaves out property, a major store of wealth for Taiwanese families, and an average says nothing about how wealth is distributed.

Allianz also cautioned that market-driven gains can reverse quickly. It estimated that a 25% correction in the S&P 500 would erase about US$27 trillion of American household wealth, roughly 14% of net worth.

Note: Allianz reports in euros. Dollar figures are converted at about US$1.134 per euro, the rate implied by Focus Taiwan's conversion of Taiwan's per-capita figure, and rounded.
