Taiwan’s Golden Indie Music Awards (GIMA) will return for its 17th edition on Oct. 31, at the Taipei Music Center, with applications opening from June 1 to July 1 for all award categories, including the Best Asian Creative Artist Award.
Organized by Taiwan’s Bureau of Audiovisual and Music Industry Development under the Ministry of Culture, the awards focus on independent music and creative work across the region. The Best Asian Creative Artist Award, introduced in 2020, is open to music creators from across Asia and aims to strengthen connections within the region’s independent music scene.
The Golden Indie Music Awards has grown over the past 17 years into one of Asia’s government-supported music awards dedicated to independent artistry, creative freedom and genre innovation. The event has also expanded its international reach, serving as a platform for music creators and industry professionals across Asia.
Since the introduction of the Best Asian Creative Artist Award, nominees and winners have represented a range of genres, including alternative rock, experimental pop, hip-hop and cross-genre projects. Previous nominees and recipients include South Korean band Silica Gel, Indonesian alternative rock group.Feast, Japanese rock band Age Factory, Japanese pop act Atarashii Gakko! and Indonesian rapper Rich Brian.
The awards have also featured cross-border performances and collaborations. During the 2025 ceremony, Thai rapper Autta and Taiwanese indie band The Chairs staged a joint Thailand-Taiwan performance, while South Korean band Silica Gel appeared as both performers and presenters.
Filipino music creators with albums or EPs released between July 1, 2025 and June 30, 2026 are eligible to apply for the Best Asian Creative Artist Award.
Applications will be accepted online from June 1 through July 1. Eligible applicants include Asian music creators and groups of non-Taiwanese nationality.
