Take action now to avoid energy bill price rise, urges Martin Lewis

  • Energy regulator Ofgem is raising the price cap by 4 per cent from 1 October, increasing average annual bills by £60 to £1,723.
  • The increase brings bills to their highest level since July 2023, driven by Middle East conflict affecting wholesale prices and European heatwaves.
  • Money Saving Expert founder Martin Lewis has stated the price rise is voluntary because it only applies to households on standard variable tariffs.
