MALAYSIA must respond firmly to incidents involving religious provocation to safeguard social harmony in its multi-ethnic and multi-faith society, National Unity Minister Datuk Aaron Ago Dagang has warned.
His remarks come amid several recent incidents touching on religious sensitivities, prompting renewed calls for vigilance in managing issues that could undermine inter-communal relations in the country.
In a statement, Aaron stressed that any form of religious hatred, violence or provocation would not be tolerated.
“Any form of violence, hatred or religious provocation cannot be accepted at all,” he said.
The minister’s stance highlights the importance of addressing sensitive incidents swiftly, as disputes involving religion can have far-reaching consequences for social stability if left unresolved.
Authorities say enforcement by the Royal Malaysia Police remains crucial to ensuring such matters do not escalate further.
Malaysia’s diverse demographic composition means that social harmony cannot be taken for granted and must be maintained through continuous efforts, including mutual respect, cultural understanding and firm enforcement against extremist behaviour.

At the same time, educators and policymakers have emphasised the need to cultivate tolerance and respect from an early age, particularly through schools, so that younger generations understand that differences in religion and culture should not become a source of conflict.
