
Kota Kinabalu: A man was jailed five years and ordered to get a stroke of the cane for taking drugs repeatedly.
Hirwan Mohamed pleaded guilty before Sessions Court Judge Azreena Aziz, to the charge against him.
He was found taking drugs on May 2 this year after testing positive at the Beaufort police station.
Hirwan has several conviction records for taking the drug.
The offence under Section 39C (1) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 provides for a jail term of between five and seven years, and whipping, on conviction.
Hirwan was ordered to serve the jail sentence from the date of his arrest in.
After completing his jail sentence, Hirwan was ordered to be placed under police supervision for two years.
Meanwhile, two men were jailed four months each for entering the State illegally.
Adrian Abdusin and Abnil Sulaiman admitted separately to entering the State without their valid documents.
The illegal immigrants were arrested after failing to produce their identification documents to the police at the city area, recently.
During mitigation, they asked to be deported to their hometown as soon as possible and the sentence to be served from the date of their arrest.
After completing jail sentence, Adrian and Abnil were ordered referred to the Immigration Department for his biometrics data to be recorded before deportation.
