PAS Secretary-General Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan confirmed that the party already has a candidate to be appointed as the Perikatan Nasional (PN) Chairman.

He said the final decision on the matter would be made at the PN Supreme Council Meeting in accordance with the coalition's constitution.

"The candidate is the highest leader of PAS and is a member of Parliament. When PAS leads, we will highlight it," he told reporters after delivering a closed-door address to the leaders of the Bunut Payong State Legislative Assembly (DUN) last night.

However, Takiyuddin said the identity of the candidate could not be announced at this time because the appointment of the PN Chairman was subject to the decision of the PN Supreme Council.

According to him, the PN Supreme Council is the highest body in the coalition and all-important decisions, including the appointment of the chairman, must be decided there.

He also expressed confidence that the issue related to the appointment of the PN Chairman can be resolved amicably.

Takiyuddin said that efforts to hold the PN Supreme Council meeting were still delayed due to schedule constraints involving the component party presidents, as one of them can only attend after February 19.

"The date has entered the month of Ramadan, and the meeting will likely be held during the fasting month," he said.

In the meantime, he stressed that the delay in appointing the PN Chairman is not a big issue. "According to the original schedule, the PN Supreme Council meeting was supposed to take place on January 29, but had to be cancelled because it overlapped with other meetings.

"If Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is still the PN Chairman, he should have called the meeting. However, several delays occurred until I had to take on the role of PN Deputy Secretary to manage this matter," he said. – February 6, 2026
