A young woman from the Kandi region has turned her dream of serving the nation into reality. Gurleen Kaur, a former student of BBMB DAV Public School, Talwara, has been commissioned as an officer in the Indian Air Force, bringing pride to her family, hometown and the entire region.
Gurleen secured an impressive 35th rank at the All-India level in the highly competitive written test. Her father, Dharminder Singh Waraich, who serves as an SDO with BBMB, said that his daughter’s achievement is the result of years of hard work, dedication and determination. Gurleen holds an MSc (Honours) in Physics and an MA in English from Panjab University, Chandigarh.
Her strong performance in the written examination conducted last August paved the way for her entry into the Air Force as a commissioned officer.
With only 24 vacancies for women candidates across the country, the competition was intense. This year, only two girls from Punjab made it to the final selection list. Gurleen secured the second position in the state, making her achievement even more remarkable.
Family members and well-wishers described her success as an inspiration for young girls who aspire to build a career in the armed forces. Her parents, Dharminder Singh Waraich and Jaspal Kaur, a lecturer in Economics, said that discipline, values and perseverance have played an important role in shaping her journey.
