TWO DAP leaders - Tan Kok Wai and Fong Kui Lun today announced that they are withdrawing from the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) election in March.
In a joint statement, Tan, who is DAP national advisor and member of parliament for Cheras and Fong, the national treasurer and MP for Bukit Bintang said among the reasons was to give more room to the new generation of leaders.
“We have dedicated half a century in championing the ideals of DAP, witnessing its transformation from a long-standing opposition party to a key partner in the coalition government.
“This long journey gives us a great sense of pride and satisfaction.
“Today, DAP is blessed with many talented individuals, and we have a good leadership succession plan and it is time for them to propel the party to even greater heights,” they said.
They said they have full confidence in DAP’s core leadership team and their strategic approach in party-building initiatives and election preparedness.
“Their efforts reflect a well-coordinated plan and synergy between internal and external factors, keeping pace with contemporary developments. “Their competence gives us the assurance and confidence that the party’s future is in capable hands,” said the duo.
They also said that the fundamental principle remains that reforms must align with societal progress and national priorities should be boldly pursued.
“In this regard, DAP’s core leadership demonstrates dynamism, seamlessly bridging the past and the future while embracing innovation and progress.
“We fully recognise their leadership capabilities and talents,”.
They also acknowledged the countless "unsung heroes" within DAP — ordinary members who have selflessly contributed behind the scenes, making significant sacrifices for the party’s cause.
“It is only fitting that we extend our deepest appreciation and gratitude to all our comrades.
“It is through your steadfast dedication and sacrifices that DAP is where we are today, standing strong.
“We remain forever indebted to all our comrades, and history will not forget each of your contributions, no matter small or big,” they added. – February 19, 2025
