Police are investigating a fatal crash in Tanah Merah and warn against spreading false information, urging the public to rely on official updates

TANAH MERAH: Police are conducting a comprehensive investigation into a fatal crash involving a Road Transport Department (JPJ) vehicle and a car.

Tanah Merah District Police chief Supt Mohd Haki Hasbullah said the probe covers witness statements, forensic analysis and technical examinations.

He warned the public against spreading false information related to the incident.

Police have noted the circulation of misleading screenshots on social media regarding the crash.

“Checks found that the screenshots were not from Tanah Merah and are not related to the actual date of the incident,” he said in a statement.

Mohd Haki also denied claims that police had made premature conclusions about the case.

He clarified that an initial statement was based on preliminary findings and is not final.

Stern legal action can be taken against those spreading false information under various acts.

This includes the Sedition Act 1948 and the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

The public is urged to allow authorities to complete the investigation fairly.

Anyone with information is asked to contact the Tanah Merah District Police Headquarters.

Kelantan JPJ director Mohd Misuari Abdullah yesterday denied social media claims that its vehicle caused the crash.

The victim, 25-year-old Mursyid Azmi, died in the two-vehicle collision on Friday afternoon.

His Perodua Myvi is believed to have veered into the opposite lane before hitting a JPJ Toyota Fortuner.
