Tuaran: Incumbent Datuk Madius Tangau is proud of Upko’s proposals that have been taken up.

They include no school examinations on days of worship like Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays and public holidays. The wearing of traditional clothing to work is also a focus of the Kadazandusun community in Kiulu.

Vegetable trader, Jailah Maribun, 41, said the efforts of United Kinabalu Progressive Organization (Upko) that proposed to the Ministry of Higher Education implement a new policy that all IPTs do not hold examinations on Fridays, Saturdays, Sundays or Public Holidays is appreciated by the locals.

“The proposal was implemented recently thus giving an opportunity to students at institute of higher education to fulfil their religious obligations that fall on the day.

“The population here in Kiulu consists of various religions and that certainly makes it easier for the younger generation to worship,” she said.

According her, the suggestion that traditional fashion or clothing be made the official dress code when working is also the focus of the people.
