LABUAN: Former Sabah Chief Minister Tan Sri Harris Salleh who led the Berjaya state government for nine years (1976-1985) and is credited for transforming the island should be consulted for advice on its economic revival.
This is the view of Upko Supreme Council member George Sidis Majamin and Labuan Women’s Affairs (Hawa) Chief Fauziah Datuk Din.
Sidis said many new residents here may not be aware of Harris’ contributions but older one do as it was during Harris’ term in Sabah that Labuan enjoyed unparalleled economic growth with the establishment of multi-ringgit industries.
Describing Harris as a “man of ideas”, Sidis believed that it was largely due to his efforts that the optimum use of wastefully flared gas from Sabah offshore oilfields sparked the industrialisation of Labuan.
