TAR UMT students achieve top A Level results and secure national recognition for digital innovation and academic performance
PETALING JAYA: Tunku Abdul Rahman University of Management and Technology (TAR UMT) has celebrated a string of remarkable student achievements across the A Level examinations and the digital innovation sector.
In the recent A Level examinations, Lee Yong Heng was named ‘Top in Malaysia’ for Mathematics, while Tey Yi You achieved the prestigious ‘Top in the World’ accolade for Biology.
Both Yong Heng and Yi You had previously demonstrated their academic prowess by securing top results in Mathematics and Biology at the AS Level.
Following their stellar A Level performance, both students have been awarded the Asean Undergraduate Scholarship to pursue their degrees at Nanyang Technological University (NTU) in Singapore.
Yong Heng is set to enrol in a Computing programme with a focus on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Society, while Yi You will pursue a degree in Chemical and Biomolecular Engineering.
Reflecting on her journey, Yong Heng noted that her plans to study abroad were initially delayed.
“I am thankful to my mother for not giving up on my dreams and to TAR UMT for paving the way for me to achieve them,” she said.
Yi You attributed her success to discipline and mentorship. “My lecturers at TAR UMT are transformative; their professionalism and guidance made them the best mentors to consult whenever I faced academic challenges,” she said.
The university also celebrated the success of Liew Qi Jian, a Bachelor of Data Science (Hons) student, who received the Malaysia Digital Economy Corporation (MDEC) Premier Digital Technology Institution (PDTI) Outstanding Student Award 2025.
The national-level award recognises students who demonstrate exceptional digital skills, innovation, and employability.
Qi Jian maintained a high CGPA while amassing approximately 30 hackathon wins, 19 of which were at the international level.
“I believe my academic knowledge, technical excellence, and proactiveness led to me winning the award, even though it was quite a surprise,” Qi Jian said.

Beyond his individual accolades, Qi Jian co-founded the TAR UMT Blockchain Club. Under his leadership, the club established partnerships with global industry players and recorded victories in 17 international competitions in 2025 alone.
“It is great to receive recognition for my own achievements. However, as one of the founding members of the Blockchain Club, I am incredibly proud to have established a platform that continues to strengthen students’ passion for blockchain technology,” he added.
