Target is opening 11 new stores just this month - here is where

Target is opening 11 new stores across 10 states in July, moving closer to its goal of opening 30 new locations nationwide in 2026.

The new locations will open in Arizona, California, Colorado, Florida, Kentucky, Massachusetts, South Carolina, South Dakota, Texas and Utah, according to an updated company fact sheet released Monday.

The July openings come just months after the retailer debuted six new stores in Arizona, Missouri, New Jersey and North Carolina, bringing its total number of store openings this year to 13, Target told Retail Dive.

Several of the new locations will be significantly larger than the company's traditional stores. Six will exceed 140,000 square feet, compared with Target's typical 125,000-square-foot format. Many will also feature the retailer's latest grocery-focused design, offering expanded selections of fresh produce, meat and dairy, Retail Drive reports.

The expansion is part of Target's plan to launch more than 30 new stores nationwide this year while also remodeling about 130 existing locations. The revamps include larger grocery sections, improved layouts and expanded space for pickup, Drive Up, returns and other digital services.

"We're taking this approach to categories like baby, home, food and beverage, and beauty, repositioning our assortment and our floor plans to bring newness to all 2,000 stores this year," Target CEO Michael Fiddelke previously told investors, according to The Sun.

In March, Target opened its 2,000th store and said most U.S. households are now within 10 miles of one of its locations.

Target is also investing in its stores as part of a long-term growth strategy that calls for opening more than 300 new locations by 2035. The newer locations are designed to provide a more curated shopping experience, rather than attempting to stock every possible item, while supporting investments in technology, staffing and store operations.

“Target is not an everything store,” Fiddelke said during a financial community meeting in March. “That’s not what guests want from us. They want a strong trend-forward assortment that they can trust to deliver quality and value.”

Target has also committed to improving the shopping experience inside its existing stores. Earlier this year, the company announced a $1 billion investment to strengthen store operations through additional staffing, employee training and other operational improvements aimed at enhancing customer service.
