Malaysian action film Tarung: Unforgiven continues to build momentum at the local box office after surpassing RM20.3 million in nationwide ticket sales, cementing its position as one of the country’s biggest local film successes this year.
Since premiering on May 7, the gritty underground fighting thriller has consistently attracted strong cinema crowds while dominating conversations across social media platforms such as TikTok and Threads.
Directed by Razaisyam Rashid, who also serves as the film’s screenwriter and executive producer, Tarung: Unforgiven follows former silat champion Hatta as he is dragged back into a brutal underground fighting world fuelled by revenge, survival and emotional trauma.
According to Razaisyam, the film’s success goes beyond box office numbers alone because the strongest impact has come from witnessing audiences emotionally connect with the story throughout the nationwide promotional tour.
“What touches me the most is not just the box office figures, but the opportunity to personally see how audiences are responding to Tarung: Unforgiven. During the film tour, Aedy and I had the chance to meet many viewers face-to-face, speak with them directly and hear their thoughts and experiences after watching the film. I hope this success creates more space for local action films to continue growing,” he said.

Part of the film’s ongoing popularity has also been driven by its cast members, including Aedy Ashraf, Mierul Aiman, Azira Shafinaz, Amir Ahnaf and Bront Palarae, who have actively participated in promotional tours and fan engagement sessions across the country.
Last weekend alone saw the cast visiting Perlis, Kedah, Penang and Perak, where thousands of fans turned up to meet the actors and celebrate the film’s growing success.
The lively response has transformed the film into more than just a cinema release, with audiences embracing it as a larger cultural moment through online discussions, fan reactions and community support.
Beyond physical appearances, the cast has also maintained strong interaction with viewers online, particularly through Threads and TikTok, where actors regularly respond to comments, share audience reactions and engage directly with fans.
This more personal approach has helped strengthen the emotional connection between audiences and the film, turning Tarung: Unforgiven into a social media phenomenon alongside its box office performance.
Actor, producer and executive producer Aedy Ashraf described the fan interactions as one of the most memorable aspects of the film’s journey so far.
“Throughout the journey of Tarung: Unforgiven, one of the things I will remember most is the opportunity to meet and interact directly with fans. From packed tour sessions filled with cheering audiences and overwhelming support, to conversations happening on Threads and other social media platforms where people are still sharing their opinions and reactions, all of it means a lot to us.
“Seeing audience reactions face-to-face gives a completely different feeling because we can truly feel their passion and support. Thank you to everyone who has become part of this journey and for those who have not watched the film yet, now is the time to experience Tarung: Unforgiven in cinemas,” he said.
The film features a star-studded cast including Aedy Ashraf, Mierul Aiman, Bront Palarae, Zul Ariffin, Amir Ahnaf, Azira Shafinaz, Sharifah Sakinah, Ubai Amir, Sky Iskandar, Ikmal Amry, Aeril Zafrel and several real-life fighters including Jai JMT and Ijam Asri.
As Tarung: Unforgiven continues its strong theatrical run, the film’s success also reflects growing audience appetite for Malaysian action cinema that combines emotionally grounded storytelling with large-scale fight sequences and social media-driven fan engagement.
