TAWAU: Tawau Airport’s annual capacity will increase from 1.5 million to 2.5 million passengers upon completion of an expansion project undertaken by the Transport Ministry.
In a statement, Malaysia Airports said updates on the airport’s operations, immediate priorities and expansion plans were presented during a working session with Finance Minister II Senator Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan.
Ongoing measures include easing traffic congestion, strengthening enforcement, implementing cashless parking and repairing existing passenger boarding bridges.
Malaysia Airports said the improvements would enhance passenger experience and operational efficiency while strengthening the airport’s role as an important gateway to Sabah’s east coast.
The increased capacity is expected to support tourism, trade and economic growth in Tawau while improving regional air connectivity.
