
TAWAU: Police have arrested three men, comprising a local and two foreigners, in connection with a break-in at a hardware store in Taman Ria 11, Jalan Utara Baru, recently. The suspects, aged 40, 28 and 31, were detained in separate police raids after being identified in the incident that resulted in losses totalling RM11, 000.
Acting Tawau District Police Chief Supt Champin Piuh said the arrests followed a police report lodged by the 47-year-old shop owner at the Tawau Police Station on Wednesday at about 9.16am.
“The break-in happened about 8am on the same day the case was reported. The victim discovered that the shop’s metal grille door had been cut and pried open, while the padlock was also severed,” he said Tuesday.
The shop owner reported losses of RM3, 000 in cash and RM8, 000 worth of metal wiring that had been stored in white sacks inside the premises.
Police arrested the first suspect on the same day at 8.50pm at a house in Kampung Tanjung Batu Darat, also seizing a blue Vanette van.
This led to the recovery of a white sack containing copper wire and a sales receipt from a premises on Jalan Sin On about an hour later.
The two foreigners were apprehended Tuesday, with the first arrested at a car wash on Jalan Morrel near Jalan Kuhara and the other at Taman Gembira on Jalan Tengku Osman.
The arrest led to the discovery of another sales receipt and two white sacks containing copper wire.
