TAWAU: Tawau District Police Chief ACP Jasmin Hussin has warned motorcyclists, particularly young riders, to stay away from illegal street racing or face legal action.

“Such activities not only endanger the riders themselves but also threaten the safety of other road users,” he said, Wednesday.

He said this following a recent integrated operation against illegal racing conducted by his team along KM45 Jalan Tawau-Semporna from 5pm to 9pm on Sunday.

The operation, involving 17 officers from the Bandar Sri Indah Police Station and two from the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division, inspected 19 motorcycles and issued 20 summonses.

Violations included registration number offences (four cases), missing side mirrors (six), modified exhaust systems (six), incomplete accessories (one) and licensing issues (three).

All 19 male motorcyclists were screened, though no arrests were made and no motorcycles were seized.

Jasmin said the operation ran smoothly without incident and was aimed at ensuring compliance with traffic regulations.

He added that similar operations would continue at identified hotspots to curb illegal racing activities and protect road users.
